Labradors are well known for their love of water. Did you know that historically they earned their keep as fishermen’s helpers? They were used to haul nets, fetch ropes, and retrieve fish from the chilly North Atlantic. It explains there love of water!

Labradors are also well known to be big eaters and happy to eat whatever they can find, it is thought that this may be related to their fishing days too. Early Labradors would be starved for a few days so that when they saw the fish moving in the nets they were very eager to go get the fish. Over generations this has now morphed into the Labradors of today who happily eat anything (often things they shouldn’t! ).

Have you ever noticed a zig zag sort of pattern to a Labrador’s fur on their back? This quirk actually helps water move over their body rather than sitting in the fur and the dog getting cold

Do you know any fun Labrador facts? Would love to hear them

(Remember these are just breed stereotypes- there’s nothing wrong with a Labrador that doesn’t like swimming and not every Labrador is a big foodie!).
