General FAQ
-
What are your vaccination (and health) requirements?
Kennel Cough and Canine Leptospirosis need to be given yearly, and Vanguard 5/DHPPI every three years. In addition, puppies must have completed their second round of vaccinations, including Kennel Cough (usually around 12 weeks).
You will need to upload a photo or scan of your dog's latest vaccination information as part of the online registration process.
In addition, we need your dog to take regular flea and worm treatments. If we find your dog to have fleas or worms, we will treat these at the owner's expense. -
Does my dog need to be de-sexed?
To ensure all our guests can enjoy a fun and social environment, it is Pets In The City policy that all dogs are spayed or neutered if over the age of 8 months.
-
Will my fur friend need to pass an "interview" before being accepted at Pets In The City?
After you have completed the online application form, the next step in the enrollment process is to book your dog's Assessment. On your dog's first day at Daycare, they will undergo a 90-minute Assessment with our Senior Caregiver. This Assessment enables us to get to know them a little better and helps us determine which playgroup best suits your dog's needs. In addition, we will closely monitor your dog throughout the day to ensure they are fitting in and feeling comfortable in a daycare environment.
You don't need to stay for this, and you can pick your dog up after the Assessment; however, we recommend you leave them with us for a half/full day so they have more time to settle into the daycare environment. Then, once they have completed the Assessment, they can come to Daycare anytime. -
What happens if my dog becomes sick or injured?
While we strive to ensure dogs are safe and healthy during their stay with us, we are also well-prepared for unexpected accidents or illnesses. Staff receive regular training in pet first aid. If an incident happens, we will contact you (or your contact person) and, if necessary, will take your dog immediately to our local (or your) veterinary practice.
-
Can I see the facility before booking my dog?
We encourage all dog parents to visit us at Pets In The City before booking to see our facility and make sure you are comfortable entrusting our staff with your beloved furry friend.
-
Do I need to bring my dog on a lead?
Yes! We require all dogs to be on a lead or slip lead with a collar/harness in the parking area and reception.
Dog Daycare FAQ
-
When can my puppy start Puppy preschool/puppy daycare?
As soon as your Puppy has booster shots, they can start coming, usually around 12 weeks.
-
Can I check up on my dog during the day?
Yes. You can check your furry friend out on Facebook or ask us to email or call you during the day to update you on your dog's activities and experience.
-
Do you have set drop-off and pick-up times?
At Pets In The City, we appreciate that our clients often have busy lives and don't want to be tied down to strict drop-off and pick-up times. As such, we don't have set drop-off and pick-up times. Instead, drop your dog in for Daycare when it suits you, and pick it up any time before closing.
-
What is the difference between a half day and a full day?
Our half-day is anything less than five hours, and the time starts from the moment your dog is checked-in. After five hours, our full-day rates will apply.
-
What happens if a dog becomes aggressive?
At Pets In The City, our priority is the safety of all our dogs, so we have designed a 'time-out' area so dogs can be removed from the playgroup instantly. Dogs can become nervous or aggressive for different reasons, and our staff attempt to address these issues and resolve issues as best we can. If any problems arise, we will openly discuss these with you and possibly suggest some additional training to help alleviate any concerns. If we feel that the dog threatens the safety of other guests or our staff, it may be that the dog is not suitable for our social daycare environment.
-
What happens if there is an incident between my dog and another dog?
At Pets In The City, we strive to create a safe environment for all dogs, but we understand that not every dog will get along. Therefore, our team is highly trained to understand dog body language and will intervene as soon as they notice a dog becoming agitated or uncomfortable.
Since our environment is like a child care centre, we acknowledge that the occasional squabble may break out. However, if your dog is involved in an incident, our priority is the safety of all dogs. We will then call you as soon as possible after the incident, explain what happened and, if necessary, arrange for your dog to see a vet. -
Will my dog's toilet training at home change?
Indoor doggie daycare has no negative impact on house training. Dogs don't think inside vs outside the way people do. They view the world around them through smell, sight and sound differently. After nearly 20 years in the business, we can confidently say that sending your dog to Daycare at Pets In The City does not negatively affect toilet training at home.
-
My dog loves his walks…will he get enough exercise at daycare?
We find that because the dogs play with their friends almost all day, they get plenty of exercise – many get more than they do at home. However, we offer 30-minute Doggie Walks for outdoor fun in the park!
-
Do I need to book Doggie Day Care?
Yes. We prefer you book your dog's play days in advance. The easiest way is through our online pet parent portal or mobile app.
